Early in the morning near Banff, the frozen surface of Lake Minnewanka glistens coldly in the shadow of Mt. Inglismaldie. Near the shore, plates of ice jut upwards where the dropping water level has fractured the ice against the rocky shore. Overhead, a line of red traces through the clouds as the sun breaks over the distant prairie, sending its light to bring fire into the winter morning.
