Description
When I began to develop this image, I just couldn't make the results evoke anything other than "blah grey". Something that didn't at all match my recollection of the diffused light, sharp rocks, gusting clouds of snow and deep-freeze cold that I experienced while hanging around the shoreline of Abraham Lake during a pretty good cold snap.
So I took the development in a direction that blends photorealism with impressionism. For me, the final result captures the experience I had much better than I think I could achieve with a straight shot in these conditions. I was looking for something that shows the strong light, rugged terrain, clouds of blowing frozenness, and the eye-watering chill that abstracted some of the realism of the scene into more impressionistic feelings of a wind-wracked winter landscape.
